Fines For Your Day in Court

And while Shive admits the odds are stacked against the accused traffic offender, he won after taking advantage of his constitutional right to trial. And while the Marion Superior Court isn't trying to take that right away. It will be imposing a $50 fine for anyone who tries to fight their ticket in court and is not dismissed.

Court administrator Ronald Miller said, "There are just a lot of folks that play the system, play the game and this is an effort to hold folks accountable."

The attempt is to cut back on wasted court time and police overtime by discouraging those who show up with the hopes that the police officer won't.
